Help with a budget build

Postby lhahn » Tue Nov 28, 2017 2:39 pm

Hi everyone,

It's only been a day on this forum/discord and just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's been very helpful and generous with their time.

I wasn't planning on getting into the sim world until spring but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on my GC2. But now my wife has banned me from any golf purchases til spring so I need to build a comp on THE CHEAP! I'm pretty useless with computer hardware so wondering if I could get some advice. Two questions:

1. What can I salvage from my old computer?
2. What parts can I save on now and upgrade later? What parts should I spend on now?

1. I was thinking I could save my HDD, my case, DVD drive and maybe my power supply.
Case - Coolermaster Elite RC-330 ATX Blk Case 4X5.25 2X3.5 5X3.5INT No PS 1X120MM Rear Fan Front I/O Panel
HDD - don't have specs but it's only 3 years old and barely used since. I think it's 500gb
DVD - Samsung SH-S223Q/BEBN TruDirect 22X DVD+R/-R Lightscribe DVD Writer Black SATA

Can I save this power supply or will it be not enough juice?
Seasonic SS-400ET 400W EPS12V 20/24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 80PLUS 6PIN PCI-E 120MM Fan OEM

2. What can I save and upgrade later? Just the RAM?
8gb RAM now and another 8 later. I know that only saves me mabye $60-70 for now but every dollar counts.

Something like this perhaps?

HD and DVD can be used again. Don’t really need SSD. Can do that later. Case might work if it’s big enough to accommodate a GTX1060’s length and an aftermarket cpu cooler. OEM cpu coolers are garbage. PS is garbage. You want at minimum a 650 watt ps.
